Comedy is Essential

The above image is of Catherine O’Hara smiling. A quote from her is overlaid, In life, there is nothing better than laughing, especially a laugh when you most need it. The bottom most text states: Catherine O’Hara Legendary actress, known for her roles in Home Alone and Schitt’s Creek, has died at 71. The top left looks like a creator’s mark of FQ, but I cannot find the source to credit them.

Catherine O’Hara died January 30, 2026.

Another of my comedic heroes gone too soon. This image a friend posted on Facebook, and the quote, made me think about how great it does feel to laugh these days when everything seems to be falling apart. Comedy is the best foundation to start rebuilding the world. So here are some of the things that have given me the biggest laughs in life. Some are highbrow, but many are juvenile. The juvenile ones are levelers that bring us all back to a childlike base. I hope you enjoy.

It’s short, but this is one of my favorite Moira moments from Schitt’s Creek. Sometimes I will just be going about my day and it will pop into my head and make me smile. She was such a class act.

Combining music and comedy is one of the greatest gifts and “Weird Al” Yankovic is the master. It’s hard to pick just one song from Al, but This is the Life is classic and the video features footage from Johnny Dangerously, which, if you’ve never watched it, you owe it to yourself to. I mean, just look at that cast!

My favorite sketch comedian worked with Catherine O’Hara on SCTV. Martin Short is fabulous in everything from The Three Amigos to Only Murders in the Building. Here he is from Saturday Night Live playing one of the parts that first hooked me, Ed Grimly.

Viva La Dirt League is a comedy group from New Zealand my husband recently introduced me to. We have been watching them weekly in chunks via their YouTube playlists. So far we have watched all of their Epic NPC man segments and are about halfway through Bored/Techtown https://www.youtube.com/@VivaLaDirtLeague Enjoy Noise Cancelling Headphones Mistake.

Just one more comic bit for you today. A clip from A Fish Called Wanda, which featured John Cleese and Michel Palin from the great Monty Python and Jamie Lee Curtis. Otto was one of the best asshole characters ever created and Kevin Kline was the best actor for the role.

So much comedy out there. Make sure you enjoy some everyday.
